Resident advisor mix of the week with a german legend

Thomas Fehlmann was born 1957 in Switzerland. In Hamburg 1979, he founded the avantgarde band Palais Schaumburg together with Holger Hiller. Perhaps best known to be a member of The Orb during the 90’s, he has been an integral part of the Berlin scene and the german electronic music establishment. Resident advisor’s podcast are now legendary and now Fehlmann, not used to DJ that much, has crafted and unpretentious mix that is, imo, one of the best recent mixes of the series. Some nice house songs but not really dance tracks as they are mostly ambient with a beat. I would call it leftfield house music, and quite surprisingly very much cheerful. It comes as a surprise knowing German DJ’s to be mostly drawn towards cold beats but here Fehlmann drops a few jazzy and funky tracks like Soulphiction, who has released a very good jazzy album on Sonar kollectiv, and Omar-S from Detroit at the end of the mix with his usual brand of funky soulful house. A mix worth checking out and that clocks in at 60 minutes.
