Monday morning chill out track : Nils Petter Molvaer’s The end
Nils Petter Molvaer is a Norwegian composer, producer and trumpet player. He was born in 1960 in Sula, Norway. The album Re-visions, released in 2008, shows us Nils Petter Molvaer back at his heart-breakingly beautiful best.I’ve always preferred the musing, atmospheric Molvaer to the beat-ridden Molvaer. His trumpet playing seems to come much more to the fore on his slower pieces, and, not to undermine his innovative talents in any way, this is what Molvaer is essentially all about. Therefore, the more trumpet the better. Although not really an album as such, as it is a collection of his works for films such as Edy, Re-Vision has the coherent feel of a real album. It takes us on a trip, as Solid Ether and Khmer did. It’s not just a collection of odd tracks banged together in an attempt to drum up some cash, but an artistic venture in itself. Re-visions is a compilation of the scores that NPM wrote for films, and which he selected because they can stand on their own, without the accompanying visuals. His soundtracks are, even more than his regular albums more Molvaer soundscapes, with repetitive rhythms underneath his melancholy trumpet soars. Dubbed and ethereal melodies that plays like the perfect background music where you can close your eyes and let the trumpet drive your melancholic heartbeat. Very cinematic and mesmerizing jazzy electronic sounds.
