Crazy covers of the week : Senor coconut does Daft punk’s Around the world

senor%20coconut

Señor Coconut, also known as Atom Heart and previously known as Uwe Schmidt, takes familiar songs and remakes them in a Latin music style. You might remember him from his infamous cover of Kraftwerk’s “Autobahn” in the year 2000. I have become a major Senor Coconut/Üwe Schmidt fan in recent years, ever since discovering his disk of brilliant Kraftwerk covers. The man may be a studio whiz and master of digital electronics, but he is no geek. Üwe Schmidt is an supremely talented musician, with real soul and, equal to his musicianship, a sly sense of humor. This record is a joy. It features a loving, swinging Latin-style cover of Daft punk’s Around the world, which you might remember for the video done by Michel Gondry who directed the movie Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind. Essential and a good way to start your week-end !
