Monday morning chilled track : Ane Brun : Headphone silence remixed by Henrik Schwarz & Dixon

Ane Brun is a Norwegian singer and songwriter that now lives in Stockholm. After a few years of numerous live stints in Sweden and Norway and several EP releases, Ane Brun has gained her own fan-base and her first official album “Spending Time with Morgan” was released in 2003. Headphone silence is from the EP of the same name and was released in may 2008. I have to credit a knowledgeable DJ from Beauport who made me discover this absolute gem, so thanks Sly ! It’s one of the best tune I heard from last year along with Johnny D’s Orbitalife.  The voice of Ane Brun reminds me of Tori Amos or even somewhat close to Elisabeth Fraser, very gentle where we can almost feel her sensitivity throughout her female falsetto.

There’s a wonderful balance between the lyrics of Ane Brun’s Headphone Silence (The wonderful loneliness/ Of the headphone silence) and the production of Henrik Schwarz. The voice is simply another instrument in the mix. In Brun, Henrik Schwarz has found an amazing instrument : the Norwegian-based folk singer, whose vocals are so delicate meshes seamlessly with Dixon’s edit of Schwarz’s mix, drawing out the intro for 90 seconds before dropping the vocal. He maintains the languid pacing throughout, adding a kick drum here, the interlocking synth lines there and then ties it all up with a gorgeous string-laden breakdown. One chilled track that you can listen to all night. And you’d probably fall in love with her voice as well, as she seems to speak directly to us while singing. Absolutely beautiful and brought tears to my eyes (like right now ;-)) many times I listened to it with the soundtrack in my head… The headphone silence, which fills my head…

2010-04-23 : You can listen to a mix which features this song here.

I really like her and her music! There is a surreal, haunting quality to her voice…
