What else is there with Röyksopp & Trentemøller ?

Torbjørn Brundtland and Svein Berge are best known as the Norwegian electronic producer duo Röyksopp. Röyksopp, derived from Norwegian røyksopp which  translates into English as a puffball. This type of mushroom is notable for the misty cloud created when it releases its spores. What Else Is There? is the third single from their second album, The Understanding. It features the vocals of Karin Dreijer Andersson from the indie duo The Knife. The song was listed as the 375th best song of the 2000’s by Pitchfork Media. The song is also featured in the movie Meet Bill as characters played by Jessica Alba & Aaron Eckhart smoke marijuana while listening to it. But the real gem on this single is yet again another dazzling Trentemøller remix which turns a pop song into a great piece of dark electro house. The vocals are used well and the bassline is huge. The mesmerizing vocals get a wonderful breakdown where it goes into just the vocals and guitar before building up to the full track again. His remix are working wonders, expressing the lyrical content with ecstatic sounds, pushing the envelope as far as posssible, thus making the crowd go crazy and let the floor explodes. He adds some of his trademark sounds to cool things down afer the climax to beware the roof from getting completely blown off. That remix, released in 2005, still sounds great amidst the flow of electro-house, the thing being, Trentemøller predates these trends by doing this 5 years ago. It also marked a shift in his sound palette, which eventually saw him put out one of the great electronic album of the last century, The Last Resort.
