Monday chilled track with a jedi knight…

A classically-trained pianist and cellist, Tom Middleton discovered graffiti, breaking and surfing whilst living in Cornwall. He started going to clubs and met Richard James (Aphex Twin) in 1989. From there, he learned the science of sampling and synth programming. This friendship lead to Tom co-producing a track for the ‘Analogue Bubblebath’ EP as Schizophrenia, which has now reached cult status. After graduating in Graphic Design in 1991, Tom met Mark Pritchard, a DJ with similar musical tastes. The pair formed a host of pseudonyms, the most popular of these was Jedi Knights, whose album ‘New School Science’ inspired everyone from The Prodigy & The Chemical Brothers to Daft Punk & the Freestylers. Not to mention Global communication epic album 76:14 (1994) often considered with Biosphere’s Substrate (1997) as one of the best ambient recordings ever. Since this, Tom has released material as Amba, The Mod Wheel and Cosmos. Furthermore, he also has released the excellent compilation entitled Cosmotronica : Crazy covers vol 1 & 2. Eclectic is word that suits Mr. Middleton. Under his own name he’s released the album Lifetracks in 2007, on Big chill recordings. More downtempo than ambient, the idea is that each tune is built off a memmory in Tom’s life, but interstingly gives us a soundtrack to repersent our own memories from. Beautifully produced with some really subtle touches in the mix, the mood changes from optimistic to contentment, from pensive to one of considered reflection.
